Multiflex MediGuard

Multiflex MediGuard is a twin pack, water dispersed epoxy coating for walls and floors, which regresses the replication of bacteria. The product has low odour and is food safe.

Mediguard is suitable for protection coating in places that are susceptible to bacteria infection. The product may therefore be used in both medical and food environments.

Application.

New concrete substrates should have been cured for 7-14 days prior to application and the product must not be applied if the temperature is below 8°C. The substrate should be clean and free of oil, grease, and any flaking old paintwork. Metal Surfaces should be treated to remove all traces of rust, scale, and oxide layers. Please ensure that the base and reactor components are mixed thoroughly.

A paddle attached to a drill, will suffice for this operation. Pour mixed contents into a paint scuttle and apply by brush or roller, working the product into the substrate on the first coat well.

A second coat may be applied the following day using another mixed unit.
The effect of a painted panel containing the mediguard system was compared to a similar panel without the biocide. Both panels were tested over time against the challenge of a panel of organisms considered appropriate.

Materials and Methods

Samples were supplied as sample 1 and sample 2 by Morgan Polymers Ltd.

Sample 1- untreated
Sample 2- mediguard system

MRSA – wild strain (Multi-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus)

Staphylococcus Aureus – NCTC 06571

Eschericia coli – 08196

Eschericia coli 0157 – NCTC 12900

Listeria monocytogenes – NCIMB 50007

Salmonella Poona – MAFF QA REF 2582

  • If required extra solvent and steam resistance may be obtained by using our Multiflex Mediguard 2000 twin pack urethane top-coat as a second coat, instead of a second coat of Multiflex Mediguard.
